Public speaking
There are speakers to sleep to, speakers to listen to and speakers who inspire. Dr Mairi Mclean is a speaker you can’t ignore.
Drawing on her wealth of experience and research, Mairi is an experienced and passionate public speaker. Using real world examples, she offers her audience an insight into what makes businesses great and how small mistakes can lead to substantial problems.
Speaking from personal experience, with an honest and straightforward approach, Mairi talks about the management of people and of the reality of being a minority in the workplace, including issues surrounding being a female manager, managing men and managing women.
A warm and engaging orator, Mairi holds visiting lecturer posts at three British universities including the University of the West of England and is experienced in delivering lively and focused academic presentations.
She has a DBA in business administration and 34 years' experience in local authorities and local governance, 27 of those at management level.
Among many other posts, she has been chief executive of Waveney District Council and Northampton Borough Council respectively. She continues to research her practise and write about it.
Mairi has been delivering business consultancy services since 2007 and, until 2006, was chair of the ministerial taskforce on bullying and harassment in local government, the Northamptonshire children and young people’s partnership board and that county’s crime and disorder reduction partnership board.
She was, until 2005, a board member of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers. Since 2007, Mairi has been a public member of the board of Network Rail and served on the small group of members that reviewed and modernised Network Rail’s corporate governance practices.
She has also designed and developed an organizational development programme, based on 'action research', that is accredited to master’s degree level, a programme she has delivered to more than 400 managers and leaders.
